Man charged with killing mayor found incompetent

HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky man charged with fatally shooting a mayor has been found incompetent to stand trial.

The Paducah Sun reports a Fulton County Circuit Court judge made the ruling Tuesday after a competency hearing for 30-year-old Thomas Lattus, who is accused of fatally shooting Hickman Mayor Charles Murphy in January.

The judge ordered Lattus to reside at Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville for up to 360 days.

Prosecutor Mike Stacy said charges of murder and burglary will be dismissed, but would be brought again when Lattus is deemed competent.
