Man charged with murder, DUI no stranger to intoxication charges

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - WKYT has learned a man accused of hitting and killing an elderly woman with his car has a long criminal history.

Police arrested 34-year-old Johnny Moore after the crash Thursday night on Highway 11 in Powell County. He's charged with murder and driving under the influence. Emergency calls came in almost immediately.

"I'm on Black Creek Road, right before Stokley Loop. There's a car in a ditch," described one 911 caller, "there's somebody getting out of the car."

An elderly woman, Martha Vivian, was driving down Kentucky 11 and somehow got her car stuck in a ditch late Thursday night. State police say the man driving the car that hit Vivian was Johnny Moore. He's now charged with murder and driving under the influence.

WKYT pulled court records on Moore, and he's no stranger to DUI's and a lengthy list of other charges. We counted about two dozen in the last 16 years in six different counties. The list includes public intoxication, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license. Many of the DUI and disorderly conduct charges were dismissed. The Commonwealth's Attorney and County Attorney in Estill County, where he's racked up the most charges, say they weren't in office when he received a majority of charges. They couldn't tell us why the charges were dismissed.

Moore is set to appear in court next week. He's being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

The victim's family would like to note, Martha Vivian is pictured in our story holding her great-granddaughter Peyton Carl.
