FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Complaints from neighbors led deputies in Franklin County to a big arrest.
The Franklin County sheriff tells WKYT he started looking into the background of Darius Shareef, also known as Darius Burdell, after hearing complaints about suspicious activity. Shareef was convicted of manslaughter back in 1999.
Thursday, police arrested him for trafficking, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
"A sheriff's K-9, and the dog alerted on the car. The individual had a small amount, quantity, of suspected drugs were taken into custody there," explained Sheriff Pat Melton, "sheriff deputies and city police officers also executed the search warrant together at his residence and uncovered about seven grams of crack cocaine and approximately $1,000 that was hidden in a wall plate, an electrical outlet plate in the residence."
Shareef, when he was known as Darius Burdell, was convicted of manslaughter in the 1998 shooting of his cousin Fred Dunson in Lexington. He served 14 years in prison.
