LEXINGTON, Ky, (WKYT) - UPDATE: New Circle road is back open this evening after being shut down for hours after a man was hit by a car after attempting to cross the street

Elvis Isaacs says he saw the victim, David Steinforth Jr., being hit by a car.
"I seen this guy walking across the street .. about where the cops are standing at right now ... she locked her breaks up ... I seen shoes flying and a hat. I ran up here and saw a bunch of people hovering around him .... and I saw him laying in the ground," Isaacs said.

Traffic came to a full stop around 5 p.m. Thursday, and drivers on the inner and out loop of New Circle got out of their cars to help.

The crash brought back memories for Isaacs, just last year he was hit hit by a car while driving, the accident killing his passenger.

"I had a flash back and I had to walk away and I came back," Isaacs said.

Steinforth was taken to UK hospital with life threatening injuries.

As for the driver, she and her 7-year-old son were checked out at the scene.

"She was broke up real bad, just sitting there they were shaking a little bit, it was asleep when it happened. He was in the back seat of the car asleep."

Police did point out for us that the man was less than a 100 yards away from a cross walk when he was hit.
