Man dead after fight in Knox County home

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is dead following a shooting in rural southern Kentucky.

Police say a fight broke out in a home on Bailey Branch Road, in the Walker community of Knox County on Thursday night. It was around 11 when neighbors say they heard shots.

"It kind of scared me. I didn't know what to expect," said neighbor, Mallie Mills.

Jessie and Angela Jaynes told State Police they got home and found Cox at their house. Police say Jessie Jaynes and Cox got into a fight, and then Cox was shot. He died at the scene.

"We're still trying to gain knowledge of why Mr. Cox was at their residence, why they got into an altercation and just to find answers what led up to the shooting," said Trooper Shane Jacobs with Kentucky State Police.

There are no charges filed in connection to the shooting.

"I Know Jessie Jaynes pretty good. He's well known in the community, but as far as thinking something like this would happen, I would have never thought that," Mills added.

Cox's body was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
