---------------
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are investigating the city's latest homicide after a man was found shot to death in the street.

The shooting happened just before two o'clock Sunday morning on the corner of West 7th and Dakota Streets.

Joseph Wiggins and his wife Clarice have lived on Dakota Street for years, and they consider their neighborhood a peaceful one. That's why they thought the blasts they heard around two in the morning were fireworks instead of deadly gunshots. "It's scary, yeah especially right here beside our house, you know. It's scary," Clarice Wiggins said.

"We both heard the three gunshots when I was in the bathroom," said Crystal McDermott, who lives with her husband across from the site of the shooting, "I come out running through the backdoor, and that's when I seen somebody run off real quick." McDermott says she recognized the sound of gunshots right away, but she wasn't able to get a good look at the man who took off running. "I just seen a guy standing right here. He just ran real quickly. That's the only thing."

Police have released few details about the shooting, but numbered markings near where investigators found the body appear to indicate multiple shell casings.

"When we come outside, they pulled the ambulance and the stretcher, and they pulled him off the ground right there, right beside the building," McDermott said.

The coroner has not released the victim's name, only identifying him as a 31-year-old African-American man. Paramedics took him to UK Hospital where he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

"Makes me scared to come out my house," Joseph Wiggins said, "I'm a little more cautious coming out my house now."

The coroner's office tells us the body was taken to Frankfort where the state medical examiner is expected to complete an autopsy Monday.
