LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Police say a man who struck a pedestrian with his SUV at a downtown intersection and ran away from the accident was found across town and charged with drinking and driving.
Officials told us that James R. Halderman, 20, was driving north on Broadway at 2:00 Saturday morning, when a group of people on the corner of Main St. and Broadway started to cross against the light. Most of the group stopped when they saw they didn't have the right-of-way, but one man darted into the street to try and cross.
Police say Halderman struck the man with his SUV, then fled down Short St. He was later found across town at Eastland and Burwick, where police say they discovered he was intoxicated.
Halderman was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, driving under the influence, and possession of drugs, among other charges.
Halderman is being held at the Fayette County detention center. Police say the man who was hit had only minor injuries.
