Man in critical condition after crashing into semi

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police and fire crews are on the scene of a serious accident in Fayette county.

It happened on Paris Pike, at around 4:00 p.m. near the Thoroughbred Center. Police say a pickup ran into the back of a semi truck that wasn't moving. At least one lane of Paris Pike between Walmac Lane and Johnston Road is shutdown.

Lexington fire officials say they had to cut off the roof of the truck and pry the dashboard up to free the driver's legs. The driver has been taken to U.K. Hospital in critical condition.

Our crews on scene tell us, the semi had stopped to deliver a load of hay to the Thoroughbred Center, and stopped on Paris Pike to ask the Center for instructions.

Police say they ticketed the driver of the semi for improperly stopping in the roadway.
