Man tells police he unknowingly hid escapee

Updated: Sun 9:43 AM, Jul 22, 2012

The man who escaped from the Clay County Jail last Monday was captured early Saturday morning.

Frankie Joe Brumley was captured at a residence off of court road in London, and what Shane Botkins of Laurel County thought was a favor for a friend turned out to be a criminal act.

"I took him to the McDonalds drive through. We had just pulled in and he didn't even get to eat or nothing, that's how quick it happened. As soon as we got back the cops pulled in," said Botkins.

Botkins said Frankie Brumley was a friend of his wife's but what he did not know was he had recently escaped from the Clay County Detention Center.

“I was standing in the door when they pulled in and my wife went out and talked to them. I was just standing there, and he kept looking out the windows. I looked and he was gone,” said Botkins.

Botkins said his wife Tiffany then told police Brumley was not inside.

According to Botkins, Brumley told police the couple did not know he was a fugitive.

Both Shane and Tiffany are now in the Laurel County Detention Center.
