Man injured in Lexington shooting

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police are investigating a shooting that happened around 11:15 a.m. Monday.

We're tracking the investigation into a shooting that injured a man on Monday morning. It happened outside a market on Georgetown Street around 11:15 a.m. Police found the victim about a block away on Lindberg Drive.

The surveillance video we have shows the victim, standing outside Shopper's Choice Market Monday morning, talking with two men. They rounded the corner and walked into the parking lot, and that's when the video shows two men pulling out guns. Police say they did hit the victim at least twice, once in the shin and once in the backside, and the victim ran away. Police say he ended up several blocks down the road on Lindberg Drive.

"I had kinda rolled past and I saw police, cases," said Ronald Clay, a shopper at Shopper's Choice Market, "I kinda knew something was going on."

Shoppers walking into the corner market were surprised to hear about the shooting.

"Anything can happen anywhere. You never know. Downtown, here, anywhere. In the mall, wherever. You just never know," commented Michael Coleman, a customer who says he comes to the store everyday.

Lexington police are increasing patrols in this area, especially because this store is close to a park.

"I can't even bring my grand kids over to take them to the park," said Felicia Jones, another customer, "because I'm scared that something's gonna happen to us."

"Kids come here to the store every day. It's not just this store, it's a lot of stores," commented Clay. "It's not even safe."

Police expect the victim to survive the shots, and they have not made any arrests yet.
