Man sentenced for admitting he killed his father

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - A man learns his sentence for admitting he killed his father when he was just 18.

A judge sentenced Verdis Kyle Pennington, III to ten years in prison on Monday morning.

Pennington says he acted in self-defense, "He would get mad and whip me with a belt. He would slap me in my face, punch me in my face. Things like that."

Verdis Pennington, Jr. was killed during an argument at the family's home on Nakomi Drive in Lexington.

The younger Pennington has already served two years of his sentence and will be eligible for parole in December.

The younger Pennington's mother, Angela Pennington says she was also abused by her husband.

She says that her son was just trying to protecting her, "He's been through so much. If anyone knew what I know, he shouldn't have done a single day. Everything he put him through and me. I mean, its just not fair."
