Man sentenced to 2 life terms in double slaying

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a central Kentucky man to serve at least 25 years in prison before he is eligible for parole in the slayings of his girlfriend and his mother.

The Richmond Register reports Madison Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue accepted a plea deal on Wednesday and issued a sentence of two life terms to 39-year-old John Payne.

Payne pleaded guilty last month to fatally shooting his mother, Cornelia Gayle Mullins, and his girlfriend, Meredith King, in December 2010.

The sentence will run concurrently with three 20-year sentences on charges of theft, escape and being a persistent felony offender.
