GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT)-Georgetown Police are investigating leads after an 18-year-old man was shot during a home invasion at 12:52 Saturday morning.

The man who rents the townhome tells WKYT-TV he couldn't believe his eyes when his friend was shot.

"All I can say is it was a robbery gone bad," Rodrigo Lay, the man who rents the home, explained as he smoked a cigarette on his front porch.

Lay says he and six others were in the living room of his Creekside Town House on Degaris Mill Road when two men burst through his front door and shot an 18-year-old in the stomach.

"I re-live it every night," Lay said. "I wake up every night. I heasr the same thing. A shot and my friend's voice screaming."

Police say after the shooting, the two men forced everyone to lay down while they were robbed.

"A small, gray safe was taken," Captain Robert Swanigan of the Georgetown Police Department explained. "According to the victim, it had some cash in it along with a stash of marijuana for personal use."

Lay described the ordeal as a nightmare. He says his two step-daughters were upstairs and the 4 and 6-year-old heard everything. He says now, he's just looking for ways to explain what happened.

"It was all a bad joke. Try to comfort them."

As police comntiinue to investigate, Lay says he and his friends have one more plea.

"Give 'em up, man. They almost took an 18-year-old life."

Police have not released the shooting victim's name. They say at last check, he was in stable condition at the University of Kentucky Hospital.
