WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police say they've charged a man with murder for a deadly shooting at a home near Monticello.
Police say 21-year-old Ian Miller was arrested Monday night. He's accused of killing 38-year-old Gavin Thompson.
Police say their investigation determined foul play was involved in the shooting.
Thompson died at Wayne County Hospital about 4:30 a.m. Monday.
Police say that Miller and Thompson had been arguing when they were called to Thompson’s home about 3 a.m. Monday.
Miller, from Elmira, New York, was later identified as the shooter.
WKYT spoke by phone with Josh Colmenares, a former roommate of Thompson's, who says he’s absolutely shocked that his friend met such a violent end.
“Gavin is such a good guy. He doesn’t deserve that. Such a good guy. Kind hearted guy, kind of like an old school hippie. He wouldn’t hurt a fly,” said Colmenares.
Colmenares also says Thompson was disabled and had a lot of health problems. He had lived in the trailer for about three years.
“I just don’t see it. I’ve seen the guy mad at the world and hating everything. He’s never said a foul word to anybody,” said Colmenares.
The coroner says Thompson did have a number of what appears to be gunshot wounds, but his exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy in Frankfort.
