Man suspected of DUI rolls SUV

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Emergency crews tell WKYT that they smelled alcohol in a vehicle as they were rescuing a driver, trapped after a crash.

An SUV flipped and landed on its side along East Seventh Street around three Wednesday morning.

A Lexington fire captain says it was quite a task to get the driver out because of the way the SUV was pinned against the fence line and a pole.

While they said it didn't appear he was traveling at a high rate of speed, they suspect something else may have played a factor.

"There was the smell of alcohol in the vehicle, but I don't know. It's hard to say what it is that caused it," said Lexington Fire Captain Rogers Smith.

The driver suffered only minor injuries. Police said once he's released from the hospital, he will be charged with DUI.

On Tuesday, Governor Steve Beshear announced Kentucky will join the HERO campaign. The program works with schools, businesses, law enforcement agencies and other organizations to promote the use of designated drivers over the holiday season.
