Man suspected of killing his girlfriend

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Powell County coroner confirms that a man shot and killed his girlfriend early Sunday morning.

The coroner says his deputy responded at 7:43 a.m. to a home located at 1995 Lower Cane Creek Road in Stanton.

The Powell County jail officials tell us 66-year-old Ralph Allyn was arrested for the murder of 64-year-old Barbara Martin of Powell County.

Police say Allyn shot Martin twice, once in the head and another time in her chest.

"It's just like any other crime scene. You're gonna have evidence from that crime scene. You're gonna have something like that especially if it's a gunshot wound. There's gonna be blood and that sort of thing," said KSP Sgt. Jim Bowling.

According to the coroner, the suspect has been arrested and charged with murder and state police tell us he also called 911 dispatchers.

Martin was pronounced dead on the scene by the Powell County coroner.

State police tell us this is the second homocide in the past day in Powell County.
