Man who killed UK football player hurt in accident

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty in the 1994 slaying of a University of Kentucky football player has been seriously injured in an auto accident.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville reports (http://cjky.it/UD3reB ) that Shane Ragland was hurt Saturday afternoon in an accident that shut down part of the Snyder Freeway. Louisville police say Ragland was traveling on a freeway ramp to Interstate 64 when he lost control of his Dodge Durango and it struck a guardrail.

Louisville police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said Ragland was ejected and the Durango came to rest on its roof. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Ragland was taken to University Hospital and was in serious condition Sunday.

Ragland pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of football player Trent DiGiuro, after Ragland's original murder conviction was thrown out in 2002.
