Kentucky vehicle enforcement officers were at a routine traffic safety checkpoint in Laurel County when officers say Jonathan Garland didn’t want to stop.
“As they (Garland and two passengers in a truck) came to the checkpoint, they nearly ran over 2 of our officers and another parked car,” said KVE Officer Steven Douglas.
The officers jumped into their cruisers….and the chase was on.
“Officers chased him down Ky 770, 312, and 552,” said Douglas.
Police say Garland clearly showed officers he had no intention on stopping.
“The situation was very dangerous….it reached speeds of 90 mph. The offender was driving northbound in a sountbound lane,” said Douglas.
Yet the curvy road, a vehicle problem…and the laws of physics may have all played a role in Garland finally stopping.
“After he crashed into the fence …(then he) struck a nearby mailbox,” Douglas said.
Garland and two passengers….Clover Salyer…and Eddie Davis were all arrested..after a short foot chase.
“Luckily our officers.were on their toes..they were prepared for this situation,” Douglas said.
Garland declined an offer to give his side of the story from the Laurel County jail…where he’s facing multiple charges.
