A three-vehicle accident involving two cars and a motorcycle leaves a man in the hospital with multiple life threatening injuries.
According to Lt. Chris Van Brackle, this morning, members of the Division of Police responded to the outer loop of New Circle Road between Tates Creek Road and Alumni Drive for an injury collision.
A witness tells 27 NEWSFIRST that a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane. The sports bike, operated by Andrew Mahoney, crashed into the back of a Ford Mustang driven by Jeremy Bryant. Mahoney was launched off the bike into the road. Two people in the Mustang suffered Minor injuries.
A second collision occurred moments later when an unknown vehicle ran over Mahoney's legs. This vehicle did not stop and kept going--leaving the scene.
Mahoney suffered multiple life threatening injuries and was taken to UK hospital. He was not wearing a helmet and impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the first collision.
The accidents shut down New Circle Road this morning from 3:00 a.m. To 9:30 a.m. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating both incidents.
Mahoney is listed under critical condition at UK Hospital.
