Mayor Gray makes friendly wager with Madison's mayor

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - With the University of Kentucky facing the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA men's Final Four Saturday, both city leaders placed a wager on the game.

Mayor Jim Gray offered a gift basket from Laura's Lean Beef in Lexington. The basket will have healthy, all-natural beef products, aprons, and grilling accessories donated by Laura's Lean Beef.

Madison Mayor Paul Soglin bet an assortment of Wisconsin cheese.

"UK emerged victorious in arguably the toughest region of the tournament. Coach John Calipari's Wildcats have the talent and determination to go all the way," Gray said in a press release. "I don't know about Wisconsin basketball, but I do know that Wisconsin cheese is great, and I'm looking forward to trying some."

"While Kentucky may have five outstanding freshmen, Bo Ryan has a team with drive, commitment, great defense and a will to win," said Mayor Soglin. "I will happily wager some tasty Wisconsin cheese to signify our city's confidence in the Badgers."

Mayor Gray also declared another Big Blue Wildcat Weekend for Lexington. He has encouraged fans to wear blue on Friday and Saturday.

"The power of the Big Blue Nation is undeniable. And here at home, as we celebrate the Cats, let's keep being respectful of neighbors and property," Gray said.

Tipoff for Saturday's game is set for 8:49 p.m.
