LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says the city has a $13 million surplus and he has come up with an idea of how to use it.
The Mayor wants half of the money to be used for public safety. Mayor Gray wants to replace aging police cars and add equipment for firefighters and paramedics.
Mayor Gray also wants some of the money to be used to help the homeless and to add affordable housing options.
The council will consider Mayor Gray's recommendations.
Gray says the surplus came as a result of a stronger economy and efficient management.
