NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Detectives with the Nicholasville Police Department are asking for help from the public in identifying two men, who were involved in multiple thefts from an eye clinic in Nicholasville.
The crimes happened over the course of four days in May. In each case, the men were caught on tape at Drs. Ditto and Musick's Eye Care Center, on Fairfield Drive, removing several thousand dollars worth of merchandise from the store.
On each occasion, either one or both were observed in the eye glasses area walking around and trying on several pairs of glasses. Upon further review of the surveillance video, the men were observed placing items in their pockets and leaving without paying for the item.
"One gentleman one day is actually distracting by talking to some of the personnel," said Chad Davis, who is the director of operations at this eye care center. "And there was a folded, three-way mirror that the gentleman was looking at to see behind him. And he was just going in the pockets. Only a couple the first time, a couple more the second time. By the third time, it was literally handfuls, and we're talking Gucci, Dior, and Jimmy Choo."
Those types of eye glass frames are valued between $400 and $500. The total number of items stolen is valued at more than $7,000.
The individuals were confronted as they were leaving the business. They got into a four-door gold Pontiac with KY License plate 492-MKA and left the area. Police have not been able to locate that vehicle.
There was an altercation in the parking lot when they were leaving, and that's why the director of operations says he believes the two men haven't been back. Now employees at this eye care center have been keeping an eye out for any other suspicious activity or shoplifters.
"Nothing like this has ever happened to us, so we're just all a little bit more aware, trying not to be so ignorant of those things," said Davis.
Anyone with information on these two individuals is asked to call the Nicholasville Police Department at (859) 885-9467.
