Men in pink skirts for a good cause

On Friday February 22, several area men will take to the stage in Lexington and strut their stuff to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

One of those men who will gladly don his pink skirt is someone who knows the reality of breast cancer all to well.

As Amber Philpott reports in this month's Think Pink story his need to help is near and dear to his heart.

Craig Robertson remembers the day his mother was first diagnosed with breast cancer and he remembers even more distinctly the second time she was diagnosed.

"My mom is such an amazing person and is so strong and so positive she really made it easy for the rest of us," said Robertson.

Craig's mother, Jo was first diagnosed 16 years ago.

Jo was treated and her cancer went into remission, only to have it rear its ugly head again years later.

With the second diagnosis, Jo would have a double mastectomy and to date she is healthy and living life.

Her son Craig remembers his role through it all.

"Just to be positive and supportive and keep a very good attitude, I think that a lot of times a healthy mind and healthy body go together."

With his mother's cancer in remission, the Lexington attorney is ready to turn in his law skills to strut his stuff for the second annual Couture for the Cure.

The event raises money for Susan G. Komen in Lexington.

Robertson is one of several men from around town asked to model pink skirts for the night.

Even though wearing a skirt might be tough, saying yes to the cause for Robertson was not.

"Because of my experience with my mother this is a cause that is near and dear to my heart."

Robertson is taking his cue from the guys last year like WKYT's own Sam Dick and making sure he looks good to raise even more money.

The one thing he is not telling us is anything about that all important pink skirt.

"Oh its very sexy, let me assure you. You will just have to come to the event to see it."

Craig has raised nearly $7,000 for this year's Couture for the Cure.

He credits his mom's inspiration on others for raising that much money.
