Military markers stolen from graves

Updated: Fri 3:21 AM, Sep 28, 2012

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Tonight, some families are outraged after at least twenty military markers were either stolen or damaged in Letcher County cemeteries.

Investigators say some of the markers date back to the late 1800s.

Family members say they can't understand why someone would want to steal something honoring people who have served our country.

"I've become very angry about this," said Mike Caudill, who's father's grave marker was stolen. "This is desecrating graves, dishonoring veterans and its the sheer audacity about it that a thief would take these."

Police believe the thieves are trying to sell the markers for scrap.

The Letcher County sheriff's office has already made one arrest in this case, deputies expect to make two more as well.
