COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A northern Kentucky minister who has told followers that society is in its "final days" has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for failing to pay income taxes.

The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/ZvfwU9 ) reports that U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves sentenced 63-year-old Ronald Weinland on Wednesday and ordered the self-styled doomsday prophet to pay $245,176 in back taxes and a $7,000 fine.

Weinland, of Union, was convicted in June of five counts of income tax evasion for failing to pay taxes on $4.4 million in income from 2004 to 2007.

One of Weinland's attorneys, Robert Webb of Louisville, said Weinland is considering appealing the sentence.

Reeves said he had received about 600 pages of letters from people around the world asking for leniency for their spiritual leader.
