Missing Alzheimer's patient found alive in Red River Gorge

Updated: Fri 11:43 AM, Jun 22, 2012

66-year-old Gerald Keith Bush has been found. According to the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Coordinator, Eddie Conner, Bush was found just moments ago in a new part of the search area.

Conner says Bush is alive, "but barely."

According to another rescuer, Bush was found on a trail "some distance" away from where he was last seen.

The crews caught this break after a highly-specialized bloodhound tracked Bush's scent. Conner says the bloodhound, which was brought in from Tennessee, was able to track down Bush in roughly 20 minutes.

At this time, Bush is being taken to a helicopter where he is expected to be flown to U.K. Hospital.

Bush, who suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia, has been missing since Monday where he was last seen wondering away from a bench where family members left him while they hiked a trail.

We'll have more on this breaking story tonight on WKYT at 11.
