MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Montgomery County coroner said Scarlett Kirby had just dropped her kids off at school and was on her way home when she was killed along Spencer Road.
Officials with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office say the accident happened around 8:00 Wednesday morning. They say two teenage brothers were on their way to the high school when their truck drifted onto the shoulder. They say the driver over corrected and shot into oncoming traffic, right into the path of Kirby's Oldsmobile.
"I was devastated!" said Diana Robinson.
Robinson lives next door to Kirby. The coroner told WKYT Kirby had just dropped her children off at school when the accident happened.
"Thankful that the kids weren't with her, that they didn't get hurt. She was a great mother. Anything that the kids wanted, she did her best to get it for them. She's going to be highly missed," said Robinson.
The Sheriff's Office doesn't believe drugs or alcohol were involved. Robinson says driving on Spencer Road has always made her nervous.
"A lot of people don't watch how they drive. You've got to watch yourself plus you've got to watch them too," said Robinson.
Robinson says she'll be there for Kirby's family to help any way they can.
"We'll talk to them and give them support. Things happen for a reason," she said.
The two teens in the truck had non-life-threatening injuries.
