More money offered to find man who shot Nicholasville cop

Updated: Wed 7:47 PM, Oct 31, 2012

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - The Nicholasville Police Department is now doubling a reward for information on the shooting of one of its officers.

The reward from the Nicholasville Police Department is now $10,000 -- that is double the reward from two weeks ago.

A $1,000 reward is also being offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest.

"This is a serious issue," explains Sergeant Scott Harvey, with the Nicholasville Police Department. "If this individual is willing to shoot an officer they are willing to shoot anyone."

Sixteen year veteran, Officer John Rainey, was shot in the back earlier this month while trying to track down suspicious person in a neighborhood.

"The bullet proof vest he was wearing saved his life," explains Sergeant Harvey. "This situation could have been much worse if he was shot somewhere else. We're hoping this reward will help lead to the shooters arrest. This man almost took one of our brothers lives, that is not something we take lightly."

Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call the Nicholasville Police Department. They want to remind everyone that they can remain anonymous.
