PERRY CO. (WKYT) - Police say a skillet left on the stove is likely the cause of a deadly fire in eastern Kentucky.

Firefighters found a mother and her adult daughter dead inside a home in the Scuddy community of Perry county over the weekend. Firefighters were called to the scene just after 6:00 pm Sunday morning.

64-year-old Sandra Melton and her daughter, 35-year-old Suzy Melton, died in the fire.

James Melton lost his wife, daughter and the home they lived in for more than 30 years in the fire.

"I was in somerset visiting my daughter and they called down there and told me," said a very emotional Melton. "I just knew it was bad when they told me they couldn't find them."

The family has not yet been able to give us a picture of the victims, because all their photos were lost in the fire.

At this time investigators say no foul play is suspected in the fire. The victim's bodies have been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy. Funeral services are still pending at Maggard Brothers funeral home in Hazard.
