Police: mother arrested after children found in filthy Laurel Co. home

Updated: Tue 2:18 AM, Nov 20, 2012

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - A mother is facing charges after, police say, they found her children living in filthy conditions.

London Police made the discovery on Saturday at a home on Ballsinger Street.

They were responding to a call about two children, ages 4 and 5, walking in and around the road on South Main Street and Ballsinger St.

Investigators figured out that the children lived in a home on Ballsinger Street, one block away from where they were found.

Police say they found the mother, April Cathers, and three other children, ages 1, 6 and 7, inside the home.

We're told the home had dog and cat feces on the floor and raw sewage in the bathroom. Police say they found molded food on the counters and floor and no beds in the home.

Police say Cathers told officers they all slept on two couches and one chair.

Police arrested Cathers and charged her with five counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

London Police and Family Based Services are investigating.
