Laurel County mother arrested for being on drugs at child's school

Updated: Wed 7:00 PM, Jan 30, 2013

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A southern Kentucky mother was arrested for showing up to a school under the influence of drugs.

The principal at Bush Elementary called police after a woman who appeared to be intoxicated came to the school Tuesday afternoon to pick up her children.

"Our officers determined that the lady was very, extremely intoxicated. Apparently on pain medication and methadone," said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo.

Laurel County Sheriff's deputies arrested 31-year-old Margie Dezarn and charged her with public intoxication. She was taken to the Laurel County Jail.

School officials say they would rather err on the side of caution any time they suspect someone on school grounds could be intoxicated.
