Mother, children escape house fire with minor injuries

A mother was injured in an early morning house fire.

It happened around 2:30 Tuesday morning on Burton Road in northern Scott County.

Firefighters say the woman and her two young children managed to escape the fire, but the mother suffered some smoke inhalation.

Early reports are that the woman and her two children, likely bother under the age of six, woke up to a house full of smoke and flames.

"I woke up because I felt someone pulling my hand really hard. And when I woke up I heard the smoke detectors going off. I saw smoke everywhere," says Jessica Golett, the mother.

Golett managed to crawl to her sons' bedroom and grab them both.

They all escaped without any serious injury. Golett was the only one treated for smoke inhalation. She credits her six year old for finding help, "My son did save us, I guess you could say because I don't know how we got to the neighbor's house. He took us over there."

The home is a total loss, and Golett is just thankful that her family is safe.

The Scott County Fire Department continues to investigate the cause of this trailer fire.
