MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Things got violent at Murray State University over spring break - but in a good way.

According to the school, the MSU theatre department hosted an intensive master class in stage combat and theatrical violence.

The 13 students who attended the course spent their spring break hitting, stabbing and fighting one another with swords. At the end of the week, they earned certificates of proficiency from the Society of American Fight Directors.

Assistant Professor of Theatre Matthew Crider was in charge of the training. In a news release from the school, he called the certificates the "gold standard" of theatrical violence.

Crider said the certification is recognized immediately on an actor's resume and will give the students who earned it a special advantage in the professional world.
