LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The University of Kentucky will become home to a national center focused on helping states reform their education systems.

The state's largest public university announced Friday that the new National Center for Innovation in Education will be run by former state Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit.

Wilhoit has most recently been working in Washington, D.C., helping states as they adopt the Common Core State Standards, a project to standardize educational goals from state to state.

The center has received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
