Natural gas station open to vehicles in Somerset

SOMERSET, Ky. (AP) - A natural gas station in Somerset has begun servicing vehicles.

The Commonwealth Journal reports a credit card device that's on order is the only thing keeping the station from being open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. City officials say it will be one of the first compressed natural gas fueling stations in Kentucky that is open to the public 24-7.

Mayor Eddie Girder says after the credit card device arrives, he expects between 200 and 300 cars per day to fill up at the station, which charges about $1.50 per gallon. The city also plans to change its fleet of about 75 vehicles from gasoline to natural gas.

Girdler said the change will save at the pump and be more environmentally friendly.
