BEREA, Ky. (AP) - The new Berea College president is scheduled to be inaugurated on Saturday.
Lyle Roelofs (ROO'-lahfs) will formally become the school's ninth president. Roelofs assumed the presidency July 1, 2012, after the retirement of Larry Shinn, who stood at the helm of the central Kentucky school for 18 years.
The inaugural ceremony is set for 10 a.m. EDT at Seabury Arena.
Roelofs is a graduate of Calvin College with a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in physics and mathematics. He earned master's and doctorate degrees in physics at the University of Maryland and has more than 35 years of experience in teaching and research at the University of Maryland, Calvin College, Brown University, Haverford College and Colgate University.
