LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A central Kentucky church finally opened its doors to a new facility after more than two years of planning and construction.

Southland Christian Church is in the middle of their first worship service at their new satellite campus on Richmond Road.

The new facility is big enough to seat 2,000 people.

Church goers say they expect to see a big crowd.

"It'll hit a broader range of people as far as bringing more people to Christ and just having two locations, especially on each side of town it's way more convenient, so I would expect to see a big turnout," said Les Reffitt, who attended Southland Christian Church on Saturday evening.

The 200,000 square foot building was built on the Old Lexington Mall Property.

We're told Southland will now have around 16,000 worshipers between all of its campuses.
