It was supposed to be a fun way to ring in the new year at Monlu's, a nightclub in Lexington. The owner of Monlu's tells WKYT that the event was just for teenagers.

Witnesses tell WKYT that there were at least 100 people at the New Year''s Eve party. A witness also tells WKYT that a dispute over drugs lead to the shooting.

Lexington Police say two teenagers at the event were shot. Police say a 16-year-old was shot in the chest and a 15- year-old took a bullet to the hand.

"He was sitting right in front of my door bleeding. Awful. I mean that's somebody's kid ya know, " says Christine, Mcpherron, an employee of the bar next door to Monlu's.

Mcpherron says it was a dangerous place to be last night with bullets flying outside her work, "Everywhere. There was kids. I mean this whole parking lot was covered with teenagers. And they were shooting."

The owner of the bar, who wants to remain anonymous says similar events have been held at his business without any real trouble, "It's teen parties. No alcohol, no anything."

McPherron says the Monlu nightclub has brought nothing but trouble since it opened a few months ago, "It's bad to say that some kids had to get hurt before it comes down to this. This place should have been shut down before."

After the owner saw his broken window and learned of the two shooting victims, he tells WKYT that he plans on shutting down his business.

According to police, both teens who were shot are expected to be okay. Police have not made any arrests.
