LEBANON, Ky. (WKYT) - A 30th birthday is a big deal for anyone, but for the family of Kara Tingle, it's just a sad reminder that she's not here. They're marking what should be a joyous day with the launch a new reward fund aimed at bringing her home.
"Sometimes they say no news is good news," said Sheila Tingle. She's had a lot of 'no news' days over the past two and a half years.
"Have to put our faith in God and he will reveal to us in time what He wants us to know," she said.
There have been changes. Kara Rigdon, as she was known at the time, was going through a divorce when she vanished in the summer of 2010. That divorce is now final, her maiden name restored.
"She's a Tingle and she's always been a Tingle," said Sheila Tingle.
Late last year, a reward set up for information leading to Kara expired. Today, Kara's 30th birthday, Sheila announced a new $10,500 reward.
"I knew her birthday was February 21 and what better day? What better day?" said Tingle.
She hopes someone out there just might have the key to unlocking this mystery. So the family can move forward, one way or another.
"Happiness and joy...happiness and joy. And if we don't...then it's peace. We can be at peace," she said.
Sheila Tingle said she and her family will gather tonight to mark Kara's birthday. They'll release balloons and have Kara's favorite birthday dinner, steak with gravy and mashed potatoes.
Police have never named a suspect in the case. Kara Tingle's ex-husband, Bobby Rigdon, is awaiting trial on a murder charge in Casey County.
