LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Changes could be in store for Rupp Arena and Lexington Center.
Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, Mayor Jim Gray and Lexington Center board chair Brent Rice are scheduled to make an "important announcement" regarding the facilities on Wednesday afternoon, which is expected to reveal final choices for the architect and builder.
Rupp Arena, which opened in 1976, has been the University of Kentucky Wildcats' home ever since. Earlier this year, the facility unveiled more than $3 million in renovations - mostly with private funds - including a new locker room that featured the floor from the 2012 Final Four in New Orleans, where the Wildcats won their eighth NCAA championship.
Lexington Center Corp. is seeking proposals for naming rights to the convention center adjacent to Rupp Arena.
