LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Should Congress fail to act to avoid the fiscal cliff, millions of Americans may have trouble filing their taxes next year.

As many as 80 to 100 million taxpayers may not be able to file by the April 15 deadline, the acting IRS Commissioner Steven Miller warned in a letter to congressional leaders that help write tax law yesterday. Most taxpayers won't be able to file until the end of March, he said in the letter.

Politico reports the trouble stems from the alternative minimum tax which assures even the richest Americans pay some sort of tax. As many as 30 million taxpayers will face the alternative minimum tax if no deal is reached.
