FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky made it through the four-day New Year's holiday period with no highway fatalities this year.

Kentucky State Police say seven people died in seven separate crashes from Dec. 26 through New Year's Day, but preliminary statistics indicate none occurred during the New Year's holiday reporting period, which began at 6 p.m. Friday and continued through Tuesday.

Last year, six people lost their lives in traffic crashes in Kentucky during the New Year's Eve holiday period.

Preliminary statistics indicate the number of fatalities in the state for all of last year was up from 2011. Through Monday, 737 deaths were reported, an increase of 17 from the previous year.
