INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (AP) - Kenton County officials have recently recognized the efforts of an officer who poses as a young teen on the Internet in order to catch predators.
Because of 52-year-old Stephen Benner, 35 men have either been charged with or convicted of crimes over the past four years.
Benner is a member of the federal Internet Crimes Against Children Task force and has had training in how to chat with online "friends," but he has also had to educate himself about a number of other things, including popular music and hobbies for 13-year-old girls. He also has to know their clothing sizes, including underwear.
He says the more he knows about 13-year-old girls, the better he is at "hunting down these criminals."
