Officer spots fire at Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Investigators believe an overnight fire was intentionally set.

A police officer on patrol spotted heavy smoke coming from a town home on Mousas Way. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire on the second floor of the home.

"When our crews got on the scene, they did realize there was an active fire. The two units are vacant," said
Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz, with the Lexington Fire Department.

Firefighters were quickly able to get the fire under control, but the weather caused some concern for them.

"We have brisk winds this morning. If the fire would have extended, we would have had an issue. Also both buildings of this unit are occupied, so if it were to have spread, those are the issues we'd of had to deal with," said Battalion Chief Nantz.

No one was hurt.

Fire investigators were called to the scene to try and determine a cause for the fire. Units remained on the scene for several hours in case the fire flared back up.
