Officer nearly hit by car

An off-duty police officer had a close call while trying to stop an accused shoplifter.

Lexington police tell WKYT the officer spotted the suspect at Dillard's in Fayette Mall Tuesday and chased after him. Once in the parking lot, police say the suspect jumped in a car and nearly hit the officer while driving off.

Police say they later arrested that suspect, 28-year-old Matthew Murray, nearby.

He faces many charges, including wanton endangerment and reckless driving.
