PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Perry County Coroner confirms three people were killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 15, just north of Hazard.
The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. at the intersection of Tenmile Creek Road, north of Hazard, near the airport. Highway 15 was shut down for a couple of hours while crews investigated. The highway has since reopened.
The Perry County Coroner tells us Danny Caudill, 34, was killed in the crash. We're told his wife, Billie Caudill, whom we're told was driving the Ford Contour they were in, was flown to UK Hospital. Family members say she's in critical condition.
Officials tell us 70-year-old William Belcher and Lily Belcher were also killed in the crash. They were in an S-10 pickup at the time.
The coroner tells us it was a head-on collision.
"Officers and first responders arrived on scene and conducted an initial investigation, and they determined that a gold Ford Contour was traveling south on Kentucky 15, while a red S-10 was traveling north. The Ford Contour apparently crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the S-10," says Kentucky State Police Trooper Jody Sims.
Danny Caudill's sister says he and his wife had just gotten married.
"I can't put into words how much he's going to be missed, how much our lives are going to be changed because we don't get to see him no more. We don't get to hug him no more," Adrienne Sizemore said. My heart is broken into pieces, like I said when I lost my brother, I didn't just lost my brother, I lost my best friend."
Family members say Caudill leaves a 2-year-old son behind.
