Officials: construction resumed on Morgan Co. courthouse

WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Oct. 2 marks the 7 month anniversary of the Mar. 2 tornado outbreak. Officials said West Liberty's judicial system is back on track to becoming bigger and better following financial setbacks.

The Morgan County Judge Executive said the courthouse had a more than one million dollar deficit in funding since it was under construction when the tornado hit.

Judge Executive Tim Conley said thanks to money from a contingency fund, construction has resumed and the judge executive says it brings hope to the community.

“”Sometimes you think people might be getting a little depressed if nothing is going on but through this fall and winter there is going to be a lot of construction work going on,” said Conley.
“It will continue to have people around the community putting things back together.”

He said the pause in construction was something people looked at with sadness, but happiness will come back with the improvements.

“As long as you can keep people busy that keeps their mind occupied and every few days they will want to come by and see what has changed,” said Conley.

Conley said the project should be completed within 18 to 24 months.
