Officials investigating downtown Lexington fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Firefighters are looking into the cause of a fire inside a vacant house in the heart of Lexington.

The call came in around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. Fire fighters say they found this vacant house on the five hundred block of West Second Street up in smoke.

They say the house was recently condemned by the county, and there was no electricity or furniture in the house.

"Unfortunately this house has been abandoned for several years, now, and they've been fixing up the house next to it. I was hoping they'd get to this one next. I felt really bad that it's been in such disrepair, obviously, it's not going to be fixed up now," said David Stephenson, a neighbor.

Fire fighters say the flames were largely kept to the front room of the house.

An investigator has been called in to examine the charred mess for any signs of it was intentionally set.
