Ohio airport searches for flights after deal fails

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Airport operators in Toledo say a deal to secure flights to southwest Florida has fallen through.

The airport had had been negotiating with Aviation Advantage Inc. to operate two roundtrip seasonal flights each week between Toledo Express Airport and Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

Toledo's airport director tells The Blade newspaper (bit.ly/TK1yOc) the deal fell apart because terms couldn't be reached with another airport that was needed for the plan to work.

Airport operators in Toledo have struggled to attract carriers for New York and Denver and several carriers have dropped routes to Florida and other destinations in the South over the last few years.

Many travelers have been opting to fly out of Detroit where more flights are available and rates are often less expensive.
