COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Department of Education says three new e-schools have been approved for the upcoming school year.

The department says the three join 23 e-schools already serving about 40,000 students around the state though online learning.

Two of the newly approved e-schools will be based in the Columbus School District. Mosaica Online Academy of Ohio will instruct children in kindergarten through 12th grade, and Insight School of Ohio will serve students in grades six through 12.

Provost Academy of Ohio will be based in the Cleveland district and serve grades six to 12.

State Superintendent Richard Ross says the state sees e-schools as "a valuable alternative to traditional schools."
